Sarcophagy: The summoning

03/10/12  ||  lou.imm0rtal

It is never a great expectation from bands of old re-uniting to give this shit another time around but then there are those few that come back with a bludgeoning punch in the face that makes you feel like a prison bitch. The term “prison bitch” used here to represent the quality of death metal displayed in the new Sarcophagy full length. It is so good that every death-row inmate will want to make it all theirs to make love to in their lonely nights on of solitary confinements. The last time this band put out any studio material was way back in 1995 and now, in 2012, they have returned with a heavy slab of raw beef so bloody that it leaves a mess in your ears every time you listen to it.

They formed back in 1993 or so to do just what every young cat into death metal that can play some instruments wanted to do; to jam as fuck for fuck’s sake! And jam they fucken did! I am going to stop talking shit now and begin talking about what makes this record so special. If you are a veteran death metal fan, you will love it. If you are a new young blood into this hideous music, you will love it. If you are a pop death metal fan, you will hate it so go fucking kill yourself. Sarcophagy owns “all your bases are belong to us” in a manner so fucken dope that I was surprised at the level of creativity contained in this record. You gotta love how they got the balls to go into an acoustic medley (IN A BRUTAL DEATH METAL SONG) riding on putrid as fuck low vocals and then BAM, a big fuck you to the face.

The punishment does that end with this record. I was also real intrigued by the production. You can truly tell that after so many years in hiatus, they wanted to come back with a real punch in the gut and deliver top quality. It is only fair since I am pretty sure that many of these riffs they had written years before… so why not deliver them in a hard-hitting package with killer chunky sound? The production is beautiful to say the least. The guitars cut through like a sharp scalpel with a dose of heavy bottom that will definitely damage your speakers. If you love good drumming, you will love this fucken dude right here. This record was not written for blasting but for groove. Even though there may be parts in the songs that require a blast, the drummer insists on just riding through the groovy way and just be boss like that. I should mention that the drummer is Kyle Gorgasm from the mighty Gorgasm; if you have not heard them, you fucken should because their recent record is so dope… so fucken dope. There are many forms to which the guitars go about in this record and it is impressive how the drummer is able to deliver catchy beats to accent the riff punishments. If you are a big fan of awesome pit riffs, then this record is full of heavy hitting ones to make you head fall off from so much headbanging abuse.

Have I mentioned the vocals yet? Fuck, I forgot. Let us talk about that… I personally love this style of vocals. I have always been a big fan of the low-end shit and this dude can fucken growl his ass off. Vicious and dry sounding but abysmal in some hideous way, he brings the fucken doom on the slow parts of the songs. It is almost haunting because I have not gotten goosebumbs from vocals in a long time. Yo, fuck you. This is quality right here. I love it when old skool fellas come around to give a punishing lesson in what brutal death metal is all about. No rules, no hipsterific nonsense, no vegan bullshit, just guts, flesh, and big cojones to make it rain piss all over the world. Get this fucken record and blast it on your morning car cruising to work or when you are really high and need to get those munchies at the local store. Oh yeah, if you are curious to hear this band in their early days. Sevared Records have issued a compilation record with both of their demos from the early 90’s fully remastered! Fuck ya motherfucker!
